X-Men: First Class, released in 2011, is a superhero film based on characters from Marvel Comics. It is the fifth film in the X-Men film series and acts as a prequel to the previous films, telling the story of how Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr met and formed the group of mutants known as the X-Men.
The film takes place in the 1960s, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and follows young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), who has just graduated from Oxford, and Holocaust survivor Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender), who is seeking revenge against the Nazi Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon), who killed his mother during World War II.
When Charles and Erik meet, they have different goals, but they share the same idea that mutants should be accepted in society. Together, they begin recruiting other mutants, including shapeshifter Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and form the first X-Men team to stop Shaw from starting a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union.
