In the plot of The Rising of the Shield Hero we follow the journey of Naofumi, the so-called Shield Hero. The Hero of the Shield needs to get along with the other three heroes that were summoned to the RPG world, but right away it is evident that both the other heroes and the rulers and people of Melromarc do not like Naofumi, who turns a social pariah. What we see, then, is a plot about earning respect and trying to find reasons to fight for a kingdom that clearly hates it. And this happens through the very cute and badass Raphtalia, the demihuman who becomes the Sword of Naofumi.
