Avatar: The Last Airbender is an anime by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino with three seasons that aired on the Nickelodeon channel. In the United States, the series premiered in February 2005 and concluded in July 2008. The anime is set in a world based on Asian folk cultures where some people can manipulate the four elements with telekinetic variants of Chinese trademark arts, called “domination” or “folds”. The series is presented in a style that combines Japanese anime with American cartoons and draws on the look of Southeast Asian, Inuit, and New World societies.
